Earlier this year, the Alberta government proposed a six-fold increase in most major Land Titles document registration costs. The stated purpose was one of several measures to cover an expected shortfall in government revenues.
I think that the increased costs would have made it much more difficult for a purchaser to purchase land in Alberta. The spin -off effect could have easily damaged the real estate market as a whole. I full support the postponement and possible cancellation of these extra charges as a means of supporting the economic activity generated by the real estate industry as a means of getting us through challenging economic times.
